Welcome to the RSPCA Animal Welfare Scorecard for slaughtering establishments.

This scorecard shows the differences between jurisdictions and identifies the gaps in animal welfare regulation at abattoirs, poultry processors and knackeries across Australia.

The scorecard is based on a detailed report which explains how Australian slaughtering establishments are regulated by state, territory and federal governments, what this means for the welfare of animals being handled and slaughtered at these facilities, and what we think needs to change in order to address these issues.
